House of Andalus is the youth programme of the Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest. The programme focuses on the power of the written and spoken word. Together with Mohamed Aadroun and Karima El Fillali, young people between the ages of 13 and 23 explore the literary meaning of the Andalusian repertoire and body of poetry. What do texts from the past say to us now, and what inspiration can we gain from historical sources for the stories of today? The young participants are given the opportunity to develop new texts, through interactive workshops in museums and inspiration sessions with wordsmiths. They then present the results to a wider public, as part of an Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest performance. Members of the orchestra provide musical accompaniment.
